Museum of Natural History

Jannuary, 2021 - March 2021

OVERVIEW

The Museum of Natural History at UWSP is relocating and aims to enhance its website. Our focus is to update the museum's website by redesigning and improving it. We identified the need to include detailed information for visitors about the museum and geology exhibits. We incorporated images and selected contents to showcase the museum's offerings, ensuring that a limited number of pictures encourage visitors to explore more by visiting in person.

Resreach

Survey:

I distributed 30 research surveys focused on the project. The survey questions explore participants' expectations for a natural history museum, their information needs prior to visiting, and their overall purpose for attending such a museum.

Competitor Analysis:

I conducted a competitor analysis of various museum websites, including a nearby museum and the most visited museums. This analysis highlights the strengths and weaknesses of these sites, providing valuable insights into what works well and what could be improved.

Key Insights and Design Principles

I summarised our research and planning into 3 key user priorities. These laid the foundations for my design.

1. User-Centric Information Architecture

Organize content based on user needs, ensuring easy navigation to essential information such as operating hours, exhibit details, and educational resources.

2. Visual Engagement and Clarity

Incorporate high-quality imagery and visual content to captivate users, allowing them to preview what to expect on their visit with a clean and appealing layout.

3. Accessibility and Interactivity

Create a user-friendly experience with features that facilitate quick access to relevant information and encourage explorations, accommodating various user demographics.

Design Goal

Create an Engaging and Informative User Experience that Facilitates Exploration and Learning

Conceptual Evaluation

To assess the overall design concept of the Natural History Museum website in terms of usability, accessibility, content organization, and user engagement.
